A Review of Samsung Portable SSD T5

In the world of technology, big things tend to come in smaller packages. This statement proves to be absolutely true when we look at the Samsung Portable SSD T5.

You may have seen other external storage devices. And you may believe that an external power storage device cannot be smaller than a bulky power bank. But Samsung Portable SSD T5 is here to change this perception. Looking at the size of this storage device, you will realize that it is not bigger than a stack of credit cards. As a matter of fact, this external storage SSD is almost of the same size that of Kingston’s DataTraveler Ultimate GT USB Drive.

This portable SSD is pretty impressive with its 10Gbps USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 model which has replaced conventional connector in order to give twice the maximum transfer rate of its predecessors.

Nevertheless, this portable SSD comes with a massive price tag, i.e. $510 for 1TB version. That’s where you might start wondering if the purchase of this portable SSD is worth it.

Design

The Samsung Portable SSD T5 comes with 74 x 57 x 10.5mm of dimensions and a weight of only 51grams. It means that you can put this device in your jeans pockets quite easily. This device is made entirely of metal, except for the power LED, Type-C connector and the Samsung logo on the front.

With the metallic chassis, it is basically ensured that the chips inside the device are properly cooled. Moreover, this metallic cover ensures better durability of this SSD drive.

Hardware

The memory sizes range from 250GB to 2TB. There is an ASMedia mSATA-to-USB bridge controller included in the package of Samsung Portable SSD T5.

The major improvement is made in form of more advanced 64-layer 3D V-NAND Triple Level Cell flash memory, an updated firmware, and the support for TRIM with the help of UASP (USB attached SCSI) protocol.

Since this drive doesn’t work on the default exFAT file system, you may have to format the drive to NTFS in order to improve its performance.

Another great addition to the features of this drive is that it is compatible with android devices. It is resistant to shock with a capability to endure the drops of up to 2 meters.

Performance

The performance of Samsung Portable SSD T5 was tested by using a USB Type-C Gen 1 connector. In CrystalDiskMark test, this drive achieved the read/write speeds of 433MBps and 323MBps respectively. And under ATTO, the read/write speeds were measured as 462Mbps and 323MBps. Using Teracopy, this drive managed to transfer a 10GB file in just 47 seconds. This way, the real-time transfer rate was recorded as 212MBps.

Verdict

If you want to move or carry incredibly large amount of data, you can consider using Samsung Portable SSD T5. It has amazingly faster data rate and it comes with a three-year warrantee. The manufacturing of this product has proved the ability of Samsung in using NAND technology for the production of top of the line storage devices.

Nevertheless, the cost of this drive may be a bit bothersome. If you value the immense of data you have and you want to move and carry it wherever you go, this SSD drive is really an investment that you can make.

A Review of Samsung Galaxy Watch

If you are search of a smart watch, one of the options that you can consider is the Samsung Galaxy Watch. It has an attractive design, an amazing user interface, and four-day battery life.

This watch comes in competition with the Apple Watch 5, and it may prove to be better than that in certain perspectives. At first glance, this watch looks exactly like a high-end wristwatch with a stainless steel case and a stylish bezel. And the bezel has its functions as when you rotate it, it shows a change in the in-screen menus. This way of navigating the smart watch is amazing because a screen of such a watch is too small for the fingertips.

Samsung Galaxy Watch release date and price

This watch was released in August 2018 in the US and in September 2018 in the UK. Australia had to wait a bit longer for the launch of this watch.

The launch price of this watch is $329 for the 42mm version, and $349 for the larger 46mm variant. The LTE version of this watch was available at a price of $379 for the 42mm model, and $399 for the 46mm version.

Size and design

As mentioned in the price discussion, this watch is available in two sizes, i.e. 42mm and 46mm. The color variants for 42mm version are Midnight Black and Rose Gold, while the larger 46mm version comes in a two-toned silver-and-black color scheme.

If you compare this watch with the Apple Watch, you are going to find it more of a fashion statement. The timepiece appearing in the screen is bigger, circular, and is meant to look more like a conventional high end watch.

The screen of this watch is based on 1.3-inch AMOLED (1.2-inch for the 42mm watch). It is brighter than color rich. The brightness level can be enhanced enough to make the screen contents visible when you are out there in the sun. The resolution of the watch’s screen is 320 x 320 pixels. The less number of pixels is one of the reasons that the battery of this watch lasts four days.

Fitness

The major emphasis in Samsung Galaxy Watch is put on fitness. All you have to do is to set a schedule of the exercises that you want to do and it will help in tracking those exercises. There are six basic exercises for which you can configure you watch once, and it will help you stick to your exercises and track them on daily basis.

Software and apps

The most appealing feature of this watch is its interface. There are 60,000 watch faces available in this watch. Talking about apps, it doesn’t have Google Maps, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Lyft, and several other similar apps. In general, ability to install and run third party apps is not the strongest suit of this Smart Watch.
